“Opened Minds” was officially opened by Maz McGann, Manager of Community and Culture for Barossa Council.
The curators, Jenny Bastians and Stuart Hoerisch, chose the title “Opened Minds” to embrace the notion of artists working in diverse media, practices, styles and subject - painting, photography, weaving, sculpture. They selected artists in several regions of South Australia, Phillip “Harry” Koch, Jacky Spencer, Tony Howard, Rebecca Falland, Rick Hutchison, Jordan Wotton, Val Surch, Kate Jenkins, Coralie Armstrong, Tanya Waters.
While all the artists share the passionate commitment to respond creatively to the world around them, the paths which led each of them to pursue a career in the arts were very varied, from scientist, young mother, policeman, boiler maker, arts officer – people from all walks of life.
The title of the exhibition reflects the range in the ages of the artists, their experience, approach, practice and choices of media in which there is something for every viewer to ponder and to enjoy.
